IREN

IREN is an non for profit association that offers student centered,
student driven, project based and personalized study programs and a
campus limited to 50 students.   Beside academics and the arts students
will also utilize the 33 acres of lush forest in Black Stallion’s Eco
Camp, where IREN teaches survival skills, gardening, horseback riding,
animal care and life skills.  IREN offers a personalized and diversified
option for education.

IREN offers its students:

PROGRAMS:  IREN can guide students from online programs and offer a
curriculum for home education. IREN makes sure each student is
completing classwork and takes any program your child works with and
modify it in a project-based learning system. IREN does not offer a
diploma, degree or title, we tutor. We have worked closely with the
Ministry of Education of Costa Rica, various US districts and distance
learning programs, various Canadian educational systems, as well as the
US GED program. We help each child solve their individual educational
needs.

POSITIVE LEARNING AND MULTISENSORY EDUCATION: IREN supports
methodologies like conscious discipline; a way of educating that draws
away from punishment and adult centeredness and is based on respect and
mutual understanding between the student and the educator. We also
practice multisensory education; which takes into account that people
learn in very different ways and activating our different senses can
help ignite more active learning.

ACTIVE LEARNING: IREN promotes active learning oriented towards problem
solving and collaborative work and investigation with a ratio of 1 tutor
for every 5 students.

STUDY METHODS: IREN offers focused learning groups, and individualized
tutoring.   We also offer computer science, reading, body expression,
languages, painting, theatre, writing, drawing,

INDIVIDUALIZED STUDY PROGRAM: IREN studies your child’s specific
learning style and helps children understand their own way of learning
in this way learning the tools and methods that make that learning style
thrive.

We hope you can see IREN is more than a school, it is a service that
offers educational solutions to families that need something different
for their child.  We work with children who are either bored with the
rate of learning or overwhelmed by it.  We work with each child to
understand how they learn and in turn give them the tools to thrive.
IREN is a partner in education to the entire community, we are not
competing with other schools, we are here to help them.  Many times
educational and emotional trauma is what separates a child from the joy
of learning.  IREN helps kids see through that trauma and rejoin the
world of endless possibility.

IREN is Costarican registered non for profit that has been working to
help local education since its conception in 2013.  During that time we
have organized donations to schools, towns and individuals as well as
helped local extraordinary kids find an alternative in education.  Today
we run an institute to help kids, who are struggling, find the tools
they need to be their best selves.

IREN’s philosophy comes from years of frustration, study and
innovation. Our director, Sylvia Barreto Benites, a Masters in
Education, has spent 25 years in public, private and alternative
classrooms, both as a teacher and a mother. Her family’s frustration
with education led them out of New York to Costa Rica and then jumping
from school to school until she realized there was a better way, and she
would have to create it.

Thank you for this chance to tell you about our school.  We hope that if
you have a client with a child with special needs or has had educational
issues in the past you will think of us as a possible referral.  We
would also greatly appreciate it if you add us to local educational
